You know you're in musical limbo when:

  • You've learnt enough to know what sounds really bad, but not enough to make anything that sounds good
  • You need anger to inspire your muse, but you need peace to craft it well
  • You know spontaneity is the key to good music, and that it will take you a week to create the rich musical texture from which you can be spontaneous
  • You need genuine encouragement to keep going, and you know when everyone is lying to you
  • You want to scream, and you don't want to wake up the neighbours

This is the place where you wonder if your career is over.
