The original idea for Today, In Unison came to me at the start of 1996, when the new motto for my "house" at school had been announced. I thought about writing a song that incorporated all the general themes and mottos over the years.

During the project other influences crept in. A trip to the New Norcia Monastery gave me a great sense of calm around me, and I was entranced by the Gregorian chants. The general harmony in the landscape around me gave me the idea for the one minute ambient intro at the start.

I was almost going to give up on the song when I received confirmation that I was permitted to use a bird call sample I had made from a recording by John N. Hutchinson. That revived my interest and dedication to the project, despite the fact it was uphill all the way.
